Just one more chapter… 3 hours later…

Reading is my biggest passion, and I love my cats more than most people. Allow me to first introduce my meows. They are named Sativa, Spirit, and Psyche. Sativa is the smallest (only 7 lbs!) and the only girl, and she just so happens to be the mom of my two boys. She’s a beautiful long-haired muted tortie. The boys are my Halloween babies (born Oct. 31st), and look as different from each other as they do from their kitty momma. Spirit is a big boned lion of a cat (think Maine coon) with long gray and white fur (pictured). Psyche is my little leopard who is a big, sleek, short-haired orange tabby. They are my fur babies, and I love them forever. Even when Little Miss Fluffyhead meows her head off because I’m 5 minutes late with dinner, and damnit! she’s hungry!

My passion for reading began first with a little friendly competition among friends in early elementary school – to see who could read books faster than the other, and then really took off when I discovered The Baby-Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin. Suddenly, reading was all I wanted to in my spare time. During summer vacation, I could read three BSC books in a day. Wow! Ms. Martin couldn’t write them fast enough for me.

I had a short transition with YA (R.L. Stein’s Fear Street series and The Face on the Milk Carton, anyone? Anyone?) before graduating to adult fiction. Eighth grade was the year of The Cat Who books and Dean Koontz’s early works. My favorite genres these days are horror, paranormal, fantasy, dystopian, some sci-fi, psychological memoirs, some contemporary fiction, some classics, an occasional YA, and good children’s lit. I also like to browse the best sellers lists to see if anything strikes my fancy.

Friends and family like to tell me that I read exceptionally fast. I’ll let you in on my secret: I don’t read all that fast, I just read a lot. It’s not unusual for me to get home from work, finish whatever chore I need to do, and read until I must go to bed. And no, I don’t read in bed anymore. I can’t do it. Reading isn’t necessarily calming, it’s energizing. I get caught up in the story and want to stay up and read more and more.

I could go on and on about reading, and hey! I plan to do just that in this blog. I’m hoping to find some like minded readers out there to share reviews with, and gain great insights and recommendations. I’ve been an on again of again book clubber, but I don’t always like their selections. In this platform everything (hopefully!) will be interesting.

Hope to see you around. Meow-row!
